2006 Alto Award for Service Excellence
Winner

Winners of the 2006 Alberta Tourism Awards were
presented with “Alto” trophies on October 30th,
2006 by Alberta Economic Development Minister
Clint Dunford at the sixth annual Travel Alberta
Industry Conference in Edmonton. With more than
700 participants, the event is the largest
tourism industry conference in Canada.
The Sutton Place Hotel, Edmonton
was recognized with the
2006 Alto Award for
Service Excellence as
an organization within the Tourism Industry
which demonstrates commitment to delivering
outstanding customer service to visitors in
Alberta. Other finalists in this category,
sponsored by VIA Rail Canada, were Callaway Park
in Calgary and The Palliser Hotel, also of
Calgary.
“The Sutton Place Hotel has set out to become
an employer of choice, a place where employees
feel excited and proud of the work they do each
and every day. Our aim is to achieve the
ultimate objective of being financially
sustainable while maintaining the highest
quality customer service and product”, says

elements which have facilitated achieving
service excellence include a dedicated
professional staff as well as a service culture
which places the customer and employee at the
centre of every decision,” Wong says.
Treating guests and staff alike is paying off.
Among many other industry awards, the Sutton
Place Hotel also received the Alberta Hotel &
Lodging Association’s 2006 WHEEL ( Workplace
Hospitality Employer of Excellence & Leadership)
award for the second consecutive year.
“Challenges overcome on this journey to
excellence were gaining the customer and
employee confidence with a new owning company (
Sutton Place Grande Hotel Group) taking over the
Hotel in 2003 and re-establishing the hotel’s
position as one of Edmonton’s premier business
hotels,” adds Wong.
