Forty years is no small milestone, and at The Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver it is being celebrated the way any great legacy should be by revisiting the moments guests still talk about.
For many, one memory stands out above the rest. Long before dessert tasting menus and brunch became a trend, the hotel’s legendary Chocolate Buffet set the standard. It was not just a meal. It was an experience.
Held Thursday through Saturday with two coveted seatings at 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM, the buffet drew guests from across the city and beyond. It offered remarkable value for something that felt truly indulgent. Tables were filled with an extraordinary spread of chocolate creations including rich cakes, delicate pastries, silky puddings, and decadent slices, alongside a flowing chocolate fondue fountain with fresh fruit for dipping.
At the center of it all was a simple but unforgettable touch. A chef prepared crêpes to order, filling the room with the warm, comforting aroma of freshly made desserts. It was theatrical, a little nostalgic, and entirely irresistible.
The Chocolate Buffet debuted following a major renovation of the hotel’s guest rooms, marking a new chapter for the property. It was also the creation of Master Chocolatier and Pastry Chef Wolfgang Dauke, whose vision helped elevate the experience into something internationally recognized. In fact, it earned the distinction of being named one of the top spots for chocolate in the world by National Geographic in 2017, a testament to just how special it was.

Now, four decades after opening its doors, The Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver is bringing that spirit back. As part of the anniversary celebrations, award winning, Michelin recommended Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar will host a limited-time brunch experience inspired by the beloved Chocolate Buffet. Offered over two weekends, this nostalgic offering reflects the hotel’s longstanding commitment to refined hospitality and memorable dining.
The experience begins with a selection of seasonal starters, from fresh asparagus salad to beef carpaccio or chicken liver mousse, thoughtfully prepared and elegantly presented. For the main course, guests can choose from elevated brunch classics including Eggs Benedict, Crab and Shrimp Louie, or grilled hanger steak with eggs.
But the true tribute comes at the end.
Dessert returns to center stage with a buffet that nods to the original Chocoholic experience once served at Fleuri. Reimagined by Executive Pastry Chef Kenta Takahashi, three-time winner of Canada's Best Pastry Chef, the finale features an array of house-made desserts and signature bonbons, crafted with the same attention to detail and sense of occasion that made the original so beloved.

This anniversary is not just about looking back. It is about celebrating the moments that shaped the hotel and sharing them with a new generation of guests.
